avatar help

Postby julliam » Jul 10, 2006 8:32 am

hi, I'm not sure if this is the place to come for a question about posting my avatar photo. I tried to copy the link from a site that shrinks image sizes, and when I tried -- I got this message:

Debug Mode
Line:179
file:usercp_avatar.php

and it said that I should contact board administration. I also tried copying the photo to my computer, but it won't show up on my profile that way. I would really appreciate any help. thank you!

You need to save the picture to your computer first and resize it with a photo editor. Then upload the image to a site like photobucket. You will then add the img code provided by your image host when adding your avatar. HTH

That's one way of doing it, there is another, very similar, but not quite.

Sometimes if you shrink the image to the 80x80 or whatever size is the max on this site, the pic doesn't look right or slightly distorted or you can't make out the faces etc... but if you try to upload a slightly bigger pic it says it's too big. Well.... If you upload it to photo bucket and then copy the URL (not the IMG as previous) and then paste the URL into the bit in your profile that says "link to an offsite avatar" the larger pic will show up in your avatar space, just don't make it too big or it makes the page go funny..lol

Either way works, but there is a size limit (width and file size) in the IMG one.

Gosh, I've been trying to get my avatar working all day by just uploading it to the site (right size and everything), but it wouldn't work. Then I fell upon this thread and tried the photobucket way with a slightly larger pic and wah-lah!
Thanks for posting this, even though this is way late. *LOL*

I'm glad you got it sorted, there is a sticky in the 'Life' forum that is specifically for help with pics, sigs and avatars if you need any future help. :D
