Isaac's birth story

Postby Becky77 » Apr 13, 2006 9:24 pm

Well, here is the nitty gritty...

We started inducing around 6pm on Sunday with the gel they put against the cervis to thin it out. By morning I was dialated to a 5 without any other help, so they let me go on my own. I was having good strong contractions and around noon and I hadn't moved a bit... still at a 5. Incredibly disapointing. So, they started pitocin around 1ish I think and then things got bad so I opted for an epidural. After 4 pokes, it finally got in and about 10 minutes later my water broke and things took off. I was in transistion before the epidural had done anything except make my legs tingly! So much for pain relief. Anyway, I was pushing soon after and had to push about and hour. At 3:38, Isaac was born. Then things went icky.

I was elated to have my baby, my son! He started having trouble breathing and I was bleeding out super fast. He ended up in an oxygen tent over night and I ended up with 5 bags of fluids pumped in super quick, a bunch of pitocin and a blood transfusion. They were havng difficulty keeping me stable and my blood pressure kept dropping. The placenta was completely intact and my cervix was not torn. My uterus just wan't contracting to stop the bleeding. The pitocin helped slow the bleeding and I was able to avoid the operating room. Needless to say, my son and I kept our little country hospital very busy through the night. By Tuesday morning Isaac was able to come out of the tent and I was doing much better. We came home of Wed. afternoon and have been taking it easy.

I think that had to be the scariest experience of my life. I lost so much blood and hadn't ever seen my husband quite so scared. I think this has finalized our decision that future children will join our family via adoption.

I am so in love with my little boy and Hannah just adores him. We are thankful to be home and healthy. And I am loving eating!

How horrible for you, Isaac and your dh! Glad to hear that things are better though. How are you feeling now? I imagine it'll take a bit to get back on your feet after the hg then the birth...thinking of you.

What a terrible experience, and awful way to end HG, but what an adorable lil bundle you have. He is such a cutie :D

I hope you are feeling better now.

He is so cute!

Sorry the birth was traumatic. It seems after all you have been through life should have cut you a break.

Hope you are feeling well and able to get some much earned rest.
