paxil causes fetal heart defects

Looks like they are going to reclassify Paxil as Category D.

I'm all for taking a SSRI if needed, whether pregnant or not, but here's yet another reason to avoid Paxil, especially during pregnancy.

I've been on Paxil this whole pregnancy and they just now came out with that info. I wish they would of came out with that sooner. I'm going off paxil pretty soon though. The withdraw is awful!

I was on it when I first got pregnant. Once HG kicked in I couldn't keep it down, but I took it daily until 6 wks and then tried rather unsuccessfully to take it for a couple more weeks before giving up.

I'm sure your baby will be just fine, but I agree with you about wishing we knew this info sooner. We make the best choices we can based on the information available at the time. Before TTC #1 in 2003 I was told no worries for the baby, go ahead and keep taking it.

I started back up on paxil post partum and had HORRIBLE withdrawal. I'm sorry you have to go through it. :/
