Web sites for your kids

Postby bibliojo » May 01, 2005 6:34 pm

Hi all,

Amanda (Kadinga) and Aimee and I have been sharing websites that will help to amuse our children while we are sick. Here are the links to them if you are interested:

www.funwithspot.com

www.abc.net.au/children/play/home.htm

www.paddingtonbear.co.uk

www.bramblyhedge.co.uk

www.sesameworkshop.com

http://www.hitentertainment.com/thomasa ... epage.html

http://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/teletubbies/ (However, this site comes with a qualifier from Aimee...she says "I hate the teletubbies, but Aaron LOVES them, just don't try letting your kid play any of the online games here while you are pg - guaranteed to make you puke!!" )

http://www.cbc.ca/kidscbc/

http://www.treehousetv.com/kids/index.asp

http://www.tractortom.com/SITE/tractortom.html

Please feel free to add to this list!

Slightly off the track, but still focussed on occupying small children....

http://www.australiangeographic.com/ind ... artrow=101

On this page at this website is a toy called "bounce-a-bubble" that is basically bubble mix in a long tube. I thought it was worth mentioning because all I have to do is sit outside on a slightly windy day and hold the tube so it doesn't get spilt. Heather pulls the bubble frame out and waves it around (aimlessly, the way little ones do) and the bubbles blow themselves. The game works until the bubble mix goes too frothy, about 10 to 15 minutes which is plenty long enough for me to be outside while pg, but a great break for her as she gets the fun of seeing and chasing the bubbles. When the mix runs out, there's a recipe for more at www.abc.net.au/children/play/home.htm in the make and do - recipes section.

Good luck to all

Here's one more, but more useful if you need to shop for birthdays while you're too sick to go out.

www.peedeetoys.com.au/

I've used them before (they just sent me their monthly advertising) and they do a very good job. I ordered a toy a week before Christmas and had it wrapped, tagged and sent directly to my parents' house (where we were all meeting for the holidays). It arrived 3 days before Christmas ( how fast is that!!!) wrapped (no fancy ribbons, just printed paper like you get in the bulk packs) and with a hand-written Christmas tag! I can't vouch for the speed of delivery outside Australia, but their service is impeccable. I've even sent queries about our hand-me-down rocking horse and they were helpful with that too! They have a great range, and if I get pg this year I can see myself doing all Heather's birthday and Christmas shopping through them.

www.abc.net.au/children/makeanddo/ has over a hundred print and colour pages, plus other stuff to entertain.
