Gosh, I don't know how I missed this thread either!
Hi everyone. I am Carla and I live in Penticton, British Columbia, Canada.

I am 29, and 13 weeks pregnant. This will be our first baby, and of course we are thrilled. Still going through the rough part, but hoping to feel better soon.

Hi Everyone :-)

I'm Cathy. I'm Nova Scotian (I also lived in Toronto for a while), and now I am married to an American in the military so I am living in the States (TN at the moment).

For my first pregnancy (terminated) in Canada I was on Diclectin which helped but not enough.

In the beginning of this pregnancy, I was handed a prescription for Reglan. I was given the meds but once I read the pamphlet that came with it, I thought it sounded a lot like Maxeran (which I had been given once in Canada and knew I was quite allergic to.) Before taking any, I went back to the doctor (who hadn't bothered to look in my file that I was allergic to this med) and she told me that they were the same drug and told me not to take it and that she couldn't help me!

I got very sick and desperately needed some help so I ended up seeing another doctor in the emergency room later that same week. He tried me on Phenergan but all I did on that was sleep... so I still was not eating or drinking and therefore kept getting dehydrated.

Right now I am 33 weeks pregnant with our first child (a son :-) I've been on Zofran (12 mg/day) since about week 10??? (it's all a blur now) and it is a miracle drug for me! I still get sick but only about once a day at most and sometimes I can even make it a day without vomiting (even though it feels imminent a lot.) I'm also on Zantac which helps too.

I can't wait to birth this baby! I imagine that no matter how painful my contractions get, that I will have a smile on my face the whole time because I'll know that I will soon have relief from HG! I also hope and plan to birth this baby "naturally" without any drug intervention (I love my meds for HG but I don't want to take anything that I don't feel is necessary). This all may be hopeful thinking but it helps me to look forward to the birth.

Good luck to all of you!

~ Cathy ~

Hi and welcome to all of you; new and old timers to HG and HER :)

Lucy - I'm sorry for not replying sooner, I keep missing this thread myself lol.

Yes, so I'm in Bristol - a bit of a way from you if you're over in the south east. There are some ladies on here from the SE, but they don't seem to be regular users of the site.

When I was preparing to ttc, I wrote up and posted a protocol which is somewhere in the 'Preparation for HG' folder. I would point you to it but I recommend that you go and check out all of the protocols and lift anything you find useful. I basically nicked about 5 people's protocols from the forum and pasted it into one enormously long word document and then cut and pasted it to suit my particular circumstances.

The HG this time around... it came on earlier (5 weeks) than in my previous pgy (regular ms from 6 weeks, HG from 7weeks). Although I was diagnosed in my last pgy straight away, I wasn't given any anti-emetics to start off with. To this day, I don't know why. Why oh why did the Dr. not prescribe anything until I'd lost over a stone????? *sigh* I didn't get anything 'til I was 10 weeks when I had changed Drs. Anyway, this time round I wasn't putting up with any nonsense so I was straight down the Drs asking for my prescription the first day I puked lol.

Anyway, the HG did come on earlier but I feel it was better managed as I have *only* lost a stone this pgy despite being on meds since day 1 of the sickness. I also haven't puked as much which I also put down to the meds but it has lasted longer than before and the nausea was worse too. So basically, I don't know what's worse... More actual puking over a shorter period of time or totally mind bending nausea and manageable puking over a longer period of time

Good luck with your ttc preparation. I can't recommend doing a protocol highly enough. Do post it up and we can all read it and hopefully come up with some helpful tips that you may not have thought of.

So how old is your lo now? My dd was born on 17th Oct. '03. I can't believe she is going to be 2 this month  Where does the time go yet when you have HG, when has time ever gone so sloo-ooowly???!!!!

Love Natalie, x

I do! She's Irish but moved to Wales! I can't remember her name offhand, but you can probably find her intro in the New/Not Pregnant forum. Let me know if you'd like to get in touch. :)

I'm an American living in Israel and this will be my first pregnancy in a strange land! I am planning an embryo transfer for next month, so I'm not actually pregnant YET. I've had a number of HG pregnancies (mostly miscarriages except for one--my son) so I'm not really looking forward to this! Nurses here are not trained in bedside manner the way they are in the states, and there is little understanding of HG, so being in the hospital for fluids and meds can be a less than ideal experience. I did just recently find a private nurse who will come to my home and give me IV fluids daily, and my family doc will order the fluids. So maybe I will survive all this . . .

Welcome! :D We have another North American living in Israel too - her name is Shana and she is originally from Canada. I thought you may want to know in case you wanted to contact her and see what she has learned from her experiences. I wish you the best of luck in your quest for another child...

Thanks Joanna! I did meet her and we actually talked on the phone. It was very lucky since the perinatologist I went to see for my preconception consultation happens to also be her doc, and he offered to put us in touch. And then it looks like I would have met her here even if he hadn't, so it definitely feels like it was meant to be! It is SO nice to know that I have her support here in this country.

My name is Irene. I'm 28 and have a 19 month old daughter, with which I had severe HG. I live in the North of Norway. I am Irish, but moved to Norway as a young child. I always wanted a large family, but HG has put a stop to that. I hope that some time we will find the courage to try for another child.

Welcome Irene! :D You're our second person from Norway! Sarah (Saracelli) is also from Norway and is due to give birth this month. There's also a lady from Ireland on this site - Jacqueline. So we've got you covered!! :D

I can understand your fears of being pregnant again. I think we all struggle with that here. But maybe with some time and preparation you'll feel ready to have that second child. Maybe check out the preparation for HG folder? Also hearing the stories of other women who have survived HG a second (third, fourth or even fifth time !) is very inspiring.

Good luck!

Joanna
