Amy's baby Daliah arrived July 10th!

Postby acorn » Jul 15, 2004 3:17 am

Ladies,
My baby girl has been born! She is happy, healthy, and I am so way in love that it's disgusting! My life has taken on a whole new meaning.

I have to keep it short right now because I have about 10 min before she wakes up. But, let me fill you in on details:

Daliah was induced on July 10th due to a slight amniotic leak that could become dangerous if not taken care of.

Delivery wasn't bad at all, though those contractions HURT me. She arrived after 3.5 hours of pushing and was worth every single push. I am in love. In a big way.

She was 7 lb 13 oz at birth but has lost weight and has some jaundice. As I write, she is on home health care on the bilirubin machine. She is responding well so far. I am stressed over her jaundice issue, though. It's hard to have her on that machine. She only has a score of 16, which typically doesn't require the bilirubin machine, but I wanted to nip this in the bud QUICKLY. And, docs agreed.

My milk hasn't come in yet. This stresses me out b/c I feel responsible for her weight loss. We are working with a lactaction specialist, as I am trying desperately to successfully breast feed. Hopefully tommorrow, day 5, it will be here. Uggh.

She is the most beautiful baby and my husband and I thank God for this miracle.

As for HG....
Ladies, it's totally GONE. Every last bit. The day before induction, I was still so weak that I had to be helped to the bathroom and could barely walk on my own without feeling faint. GONE. Energy BACK!

I was nauseous on the day of induction. I gave birth....GONE. Immediately!

My spirits are high. I feel thankful and content and pretty darn healthy again! You will too! This pregnancy was beyond worth the struggle, as my baby daughter is here with me now. All is well in the world.

Thank you all for your support. Due to baby's jaundice, I'll be checking a bit less frequently until she and I are recuperated. But, I can't wait to help other HG'ers who have travelled in these shoes, so I'll try to check as much as newborn schedule permits.

Love,
Amy

Congratulations!!!

If breastfeeding simply doesn't work out, please don't feel badly and send me a message if you need support. I worked with LC's and supplemental nursing systems and pumped and drank mother's milk tea and never got any milk. I still feel sad sometimes as I would be thinking about weaning soon if it had worked and here I never got the chance. But, I don't feel any less close to Rory.

HUGS!

Question for Wendy

Postby acorn » Jul 20, 2004 8:41 am

Wendy (and everyone),
Thanks so much for your well-wishes.

everything is going so well, EXCEPT the breastfeeding thing. Uggh. It's been difficult. First Daliah's latch was causing my nipples to crack and bleed. We went (and are still going) to a lactation specialist and are on a regimen that is insane. I have an extremely low milk supply and I have to breastfeed using a tube to avoid nipple confusion. Then, pump, then put olive oil on nipples and then take hot bath. By the time I'm done, it's time to breastfeed again.

Anyway, no complaints b/c I have been blessed in the biggest way with my baby.

Anna, let's talk in the Breastfeeding forum

Postby acorn » Jul 20, 2004 8:45 am

Anna,
Thanks so much. I'll take you up on that talk.
My milk supply is low. I have to pump but that isn't even helping. I get 10 cc/ml from both breasts. So I BF, pump, give supplement and start over again.

Ok, see you over there. Would LOVE to hear what you went through and how it turned out (and if no milk supply, how you coped).

Amy FENUGREEK is an herb that can increase your milk supply. There are also other things I can suggest if you are interested.

fenugreek

Postby acorn » Jul 22, 2004 9:20 am

Lisa,
I'm totally interested in hearing about it. Did you take it? Can it be dangerous to me or the baby? Let me know....

Thanks,
Amy

Amy -

I took fenugreek and it helped. It makes you smell like maple syrup (no kidding, it really does!), but as far as I know there is no risk to you or the baby. It helped with my milk supply and I saw no side effects whatsoever (other than the maple syrup smell  ).

Hey Amy

Anna covered it...it is an herb and is totally safe. You can get it at any health food store. I think the dose is 3 capsules 4 times a day. I used it for a while after my 1st baby. It worked wonders. If you do not notice your sweat and urine smelling like maple syrup, increase the dose until it does. You should notice an increase in about 72 hoursm but it can take up to 2 weeks sometimes.

Should it not help, another option is REGLAN!!!! Not the drug of choice for most hgers,,except me, lol but a side effect is lactation and it is used to increAse mild supplY.
GOOD LUCK!!!!
Huge Hugs,
Lisa
