survivng HG

Postby Guest » May 30, 2004 9:13 pm

I am a five time sufferer of HG. I got my first crash course during my fisrt pregnancy. I just kept thinking it would go away. After I lost twenty pounds and couldn't turn over on my side without vomitting I realized this was not morning sickness or simply mind over matter. Wehn my doctor realized I had lost twenty pounds she put me on home IV therpay for hydration. Okay for the first month I got lines tha lasted almost two weeks. Then the veins were collapsing after like four days and then two and, well, you get the picture. I refused to allow them to srick me any longer and my doctor's partner called becuase my doctor was a little passive, he told me flat out that my baby was ging to die if I didn't get hydrated and is that what I wanted. I told him that at this point I felt like I was going to die. I told him to come up with an alternative to me getting stuck every day and he did. I was admitted that day and got a central line thorugh which I recieved TPN for the next five months until my eighth month of pregnacy. By the time I deliverd my son on 22 FEbruary 1997 I had lost 42 pounds and lived in fear until he was born that something was going to be wrong with him. I am happy to report that he is beauriful bright and only has reflux from his bumpy ride in mom's belly. With my second son I suffered just as badly but we were procativer from the brginnning and got the hydration and nutrition going sooner. I lost 38 pounds with him and he was a premie due to a placenta previa but he is wonderful as well. I didn't have much luck after that I losdt four babies and felt like no one was listening to me until I got a really great ER doctor one night. With my pregnancy that carried to 14 weeks I had lost 18 pounds in two weeks been to the ER three times in a week and no one did an u/s until this doctor. The baby had passed two weeks ago and my hcg nubers were still rising and I was sick as ever. I was admitted for a D&C and met my current doctor. I just love him although he doesn't always listen wither but when I get his attention I get what I need. I am 13 weeks currently and have lost 11 pounds so far. I am on home I Vtheraly the maximum of IV zofran and a steroid taper. I have been hospitalized twice for this pregnancy so far and am trying to avoid TPN. I think that the steroids are helping I have put together two good days and I am so happy. I see the doctor and have an u/s every two weeks until we can hear the heartbeat with the dopplar. My doctor is setting me up noe with a specialist since we are approaching the second trimester and we havn't done that togehter so he is happy and very cautious with me. He really is wonderful and I am lucky he took me on and does what I ask him. He ASKS me what can I do for you. Is ther anything you need me to do. CALL the office when you need something and he tries to take care of it. He is not looking forward to this as he is not used to this going past teh first trimester and had to sit sown when he got my history and realized it lasts the whole time for me. Oh well looks like we are into this one for the long hall I pray that is the case anyway. I don't know if I can do this again, but each time was worth it.

Hi! I'm so sorry about your losses. I got told frequently that I couldn't have had HG with my miscarried pregnancy--ha! It may be uncommon, but it does happen, as you well know. Do you know why you have miscarried your pregnancies? You are so strong to face this again, and I hope that this pregnancy will be full-term. It sounds like you are being well-managed. Do you have a central line this time? How often are you getting fluids? What dosage of Zofran are you on, and what kind of steroid regimine have you used? LOL - I'm trying to head off the questions Andy will ask later.

Keep us updated on your progress and about meeting with that specialist! If you would like me to get you in touch with a buddy, you can email me your name and location and I'll find someone to match. Best wishes to you!
Pamela

I'm pretty sure I just responded to another post you posted, but now I can't find it! I'm still getting used to navigating around here! I'm usually dealing with 1-2 new gals a week, so I'm getting a little confused! Sorry!

Pamela is right, I do want to know those answers! lol.

Reflux is actually quite common w/ HGers - I should really open up a whole forum just about reflux because it's being studied to see if there is a higher than normal ratio of reflux babies born to HGers than non-HGers.

Anyways, post your answers with your other post, and I'll find you again. :)
