Re: Welcome to the Buddy System! a buddy would be great

Hi

I am an HG sufferer currently living in England. This is my 3rd (and LAST) pg and I am due on July 14th. I am struggling with the NHS healthcare system -- I am from the US -- finally seeing the hyperemesis guy at 16 weeks. I have no support system here in the UK because we have only moved 6 months ago and sadly this is not a very friendly place. We moved into our new house 3 months ago and it is an absolute disaster zone. Also, my husband's new job has ended up involving a lot more travel than he was led to expect. So I am on my own with a 10 and 7 year old for several days every week.

At this point I have managed to get myself on Zofran, but it is only helping with vomiting. I am still very ill, most notably with nausea, exhaustion and heartburn.

I felt so lousy and depressed I seriously considered terminating the pg in the 1st trimester. At this point I am very sick and very low. I am not even looking forward to the baby. All I can see is the grinding, boring hard work of little babyhood. It sounds terrible, but I did not find the tiny baby stage at all enjoyable. Once they got to about 1 it was more fun.

Any support at all would be great.

Many thanks.

Welcome. I have volunteers in your area, and I'll have someone in touch with you soon. It sounds like adding another med to the Zofran will help you right now; there are meds NHS oks like Phenergan- or Reglan-equivilents, and you could also have someone at home in the US send you some meclizine or Unisom or something of that OTC nature. And it sounds like a reflux med will be very helpful for you, too.

I do understand your ambivilance about a new baby. My husband is like that--he doesn't really LIKE babies until they're old enough to do something, so in our case it worked well that I preferred babyhood to toddlerhood, when he took over the excitement portion of the program. After two colicky, refluxing baby girls, though, the thought of a newborn strikes fear in my heart. But you know how quickly they assert their little personalities, and within a matter or weeks you'll realize that you've known this baby forever and that he or she is more a little person than a helpless newborn. And you've got older children to help, which may work to your advantage. There's time to make these adjustments; in the meantime, let's work on a volunteer and on finding a med combo that works for you! Just email me by hitting the button at the bottom of this post. I need a name and email address, and I'll have a support person in touch right away.

A Buddy

Postby alabama27 » Apr 23, 2006 8:21 pm

I think a buddy would be great for her. Mom might not be the right one for her. She is hoping that her two sister-in-law can help her, but they didn't go thru this either. This is new. Her email addy is lion_taimer7@hotmail.com. I registered with mine to try and find out and help her too.

Hi,
I've been lurking for a little while now and I think I'd like a buddy. It's helped so much just being able to read other stories and seeing that you can survive this stuff.

I'm 16 1/2 weeks and I live in Bloomington, MN. I've been sick since about 7 weeks, but I thought I could handle things until I had a cerebral hemorrage at 11 weeks. Things kinda went down hill after that.

Being on the phone tends to wear me out, but I manage to get online almost every day, so email would work best for me right now.

Let me know what else you need from me.

thanks!

I'm willing to be a buddy!!

Postby bridges9597 » Jul 04, 2006 11:48 am

HELLO :)

My name is Nikki Bridges and I live in Plattsburgh NY. I've been looking for a site like this - I really hope I can share my experiences and help other woman get though the tough times.

I have 3 beautiful children, and i had HG for all 3. My first was moderate HG, my 2nd and 3rd were severe with hospitalization and PICC line.

My first 2 pregnancies I was depressed and wished that I had someone to talk to. My midwife gave me a phone number of another local woman who had severe HG, and we talked throughout my 3rd pregnancy. She was a lifesaver!!

I'm hoping that I provide support and help other mothers get through the tough times while coping with HG. I'd like the inital contact to be my e-mail; however, I am willing to exchange phone numbers and meet people if a friendship is established.

Take Care and Best of Luck to Everyone!!

Thanks, Nikki. I got your email and will add you to the list. We seem to be having a New York HG baby boom here, so I may be in touch soon! Thanks for volunteering. :)
