Baby's Kicks

Postby Brynn1984 » Jun 24, 2012 8:12 am

Since this is my first pregnancy I feel pretty clueless about a lot of things (on top of HG!). For example, some days my baby is a kicking fiend and it seems like he never sleeps, and then other days I only feel him a little bit. Is that what everyone experiences? During my last ultrasound I could see him moving all around but couldn't feel it, so maybe that's normal? Like I said, clueless.

It's pretty normal to feel the baby move more some days than others. This baby would go hours without moving (she moves more now). All babies are different too...some are more active in utero, others are mellow. I tend to think it reflects their personalities! Most doctors don't have you count kicks anymore, but the ones that do don't ask until you're in the final trimester. You can google how to do it. Placenta positioning can make it hard to feel some movement too (like if it's in front).

Generally, if you don't feel baby move at all for a few hours, drink something/eat something (if you can) and lay on your side for a while. You should feel some movement within an hour (doesn't have to feel like a huge movmement, as long as you feel something).

I'm sure everything is normal in there! Ask your OB next visit if you're at all concerned though!

Its crazy you posted this. The other day i was laying in bed and was thinking i have not felt baby today. Sonthen i start to secretly panic and think i had not felt baby the day before. So of course i lay on my side and try pushing on my belly thinking it would wake little boy up. But still never felt baby. Soni went to bed and for the past two days baby has been a non stop dancer. My DH even got to feel him last night! So yes i think this is normal. This is my second pregnancy and you would think i could remember these things but i think HG pgs end up a big blur cause i dont remember much of anything from being pg before. Like anneCan said your placenta has a lot to do with it. This time i have an anterior placenta and they told me that my hubby probably wont be able to feel baby until i am like 30 wks... Well im only 24 and he felt baby! So i would not stress!!! Its horrible but my motto is as long as im still feeling sick baby is aokay!!!

Just as an extra note too, I find that this baby moves less (and I get more BH contractions) when I'm dehydrated. Make sure you stay as hydrated as you can (I know...the impossible task with HG).

I agree with the other ladies. All of my pregnancies have been different. I have had some quiet babies and some "waaaay more active" babies! The baby I am currently carrying NEVER stops moving! The only time she slows down is when I am dehydrated. Keep an eye on your fluids as that definitely makes a difference. All my best

My first baby I felt move in my first tri and my DH could feel her by 16 wks. My 2nd one hardly ever moved and would frequently fail non-stress tests. This time I've also felt it really early on, although some days I don't feel much of anything. This morning in church baby b wouldn't get its whatever out of my ribs, and this afternoon I think baby a was using my bladder like a trampoline. I also don't really feel anything on my left side b/c that's where the placenta/s is/are. I've never know where my placenta was, but w/ twins it's important to know where exactly it is and if there are one or two - they can't tell if I just have one or if two have fused together.
And eating does usually get them to move around a little more.

I did just remember that my OB said that my placenta is in the front, so maybe that makes a difference. I find that when I am less nauseous I feel him more too. So I'll just hope for lots more less-nauseous days :D
