Zero Confidence in my Doctor!

Postby Alwayshappy39 » Apr 18, 2012 2:49 pm

It is sooo frustrating when you have zero confidence in your doctor. I tried to change docs a few months ago but, because i was in the middle of home health agencies, hospital visits, etc. I couldn't get a doctor to take me on with my insurance. So, I figured I would just stay the course. There have been multiple times I wanted to tell her to come to this website and do some research! Well, today I completely hit a wall! I went off of my Zofran pump a few days ago and now I am suffering from LOTS of nausea! I called her today and even though she has never personally returned my call I figured I would try again..My message was the following "I am really struggling with nausea and the Zofran hasnt seemed to touch it. I read that women take a combination of Unisom and B6. Can I take it? If so, how much? And I have a few other questions so, I would appreciate if you could call me back" What was my response you ask? The nurse called me and said "The doctor has never heard of Unisom being used for nausea. But, it is safe during pregnancy. So, if you want to take it then that is Ok" Really? I just called the office to see about changing doctors within the practice and was told the office manager would get back to me. I met one of her partners in one of many hospital stays and she seemed competent! Any doctor would be better than the monkey I am dealing with now!!!!

Good, it's definitely not too late to change doc's so you get better care! Good luck

How can someone go through medical school and be such an idiot!? The unisom/b6 combo is 12.5 mg of the unisom sleep tabs(not maximum strength unisom sleepgels) and 12.5 mg of a vitamin b6. At bedtime 25 mg of unisom sleep tabs and 25 mg of b6.

I am not a dr or pharmacist. This info is from page 108 of the book beyond morning sickness by Ashli mcall. I would suggest asking a pharmacist. You can contact http://www.beyondmorningsickness.com for help with drs, etc. they sent me a copy of the book free! You can also download the book for 2.99 on amazon.

Hope this helps!

Maybe you can ask beyondmorningsickness.com to order your doctor a copy (for free) as part of HG awareness day May 15th...it sounds like they need some educating!

I think I am going to definately send a copy of "Beyond Morning Sickness" to my doctors office. Even if she was unable to assist me in my pregnancy, I would be so happy if she read the book and used some of its helpful information for another woman who is suffering. Don't get me wrong, I used some strong words (I believe I called my doctor a monkey) but, I was just venting. I don't believe she is a evil doctor. She just doesn't have the right tools for an HG patient and she is reluctant or too lazy to do any research. I guess she hasn't come across enough of us!

This site also has pamphlets that you can print out to help with HG awareness. I can't remember where on their site, but I saw them one day (I think they're PDF's). I'm going to have some printed at a local print place and bring some to my OB's and doc's office for HG awareness too.

Oh...I just found them under the forum link to "HG awareness and activism" folder...there's a sticky in there with the pamphlets and brochures - called "printable brochures and info".

That is pretty dang bad seeing as how it's basically a FIRST line treatment in the U.S. and Canada.

Can you email your Dr.?

I was on B6 and Unisom from my incompetent OB from the very beginning. They actually gave me a little magnet about the size of a business card that had a list of medications that are safe to use while pg and nursing, and B6 and Unisom is listed there! And this is the OB's office that told me 30 lbs is not unusual to lose in the middle of the 1st tri! This is the same OB my husband wanted to punch at the last appointment because she was so dismissive of the fact that I was in and out of the hospital. I left after that appointment and never went back to them. I was 4-5 months pg at the time, so it is never too late, particularly to a dr in the same group or whatever.

As far as the phone calls go, I can understand why a dr might not personally call back a patient, but after such a specific message, I would make an appointment to call the dr or something similar. Sometimes the nurse practitioner is NOT the most helpful person (and half the time, I believe, the drs hire them to be gatekeepers, if you will!).

I want to thank all of you that have responded to my posts. It means a lot to have women on my side. (no matter what the distance) I called my doctors office for the third day in a row and finally got to speak to the office manager. This was her response "didn't u get my message?" (well, lady if u would have left me one, then I would have gotten it) Then she said "I spoke with your doctor and she said that we don't allow our pregnant patients to change physicians within our practice while u r still pregnant. So, the the doctor said knowing that u are unhappy with her has made her quite uncomfortable. (uncomfortable? Hello, I have Hyperemesis. That is uncomfortable) She said she can recommend another doctor in the area.. What? Are u kidding me? I am currently on Medicaid because I am unable to work and my BC/BS didn't cover all of this Hi Risk pregnancy stuff. So, finding another doctor is a really big deal! The good news is that I have been on the phone all morning and think I may have found a REALLY good doctor that is 20 minutes closer to me. I have an appointment on Tuesday. Ladies, please keep me in your prayers that the doctor accepts me as his patient and gives me better care than I have been receiving. Thank u again...
