Please pray for my sister...updated

Postby Cindygirl » Feb 05, 2007 11:13 am

She's 87 lbs now...

I came to Utah in November bacause my 18 yr old sister was hospitalized. I wanted to help out. I was about 4 weeks pg when I came. I knew hg was a possiblility, but was hoping for another normal pg as with my second. She was in the hospital for 10 days...she had mono caused by 2 different viruses. I was able to help out for her hospital stay and a few days after that. Then my hg hit and I was down for the count. My poor mother had to take care of my sister, my kids, and me. My other sister has been helping out a lot with my kids, but...

They found out months later that she has gastroparesis as a result of the mono. With gastroparesis, the nerves to your stomach are damaged, many times permenently, and the stomach doesn't empty properly. Many people end up losing jobs and lives...living off a tube put in their stomach to feed them, pain pills, nausea pills, GI emptying pills multiple times a day for the rest of their lives, many of them end up having multiple surgeries. She's been struggling with nausea and vomiting, mostly nausea, ever since her hospital stay. She's been in bed and too weak and sick to get up and with a home tutor ever since November. She is a senior in high school, class vice president, very well liked....now this. She's so depressed and she went in to the dr's today and weighed in at 87 lbs, she's about 5'6"!!! They are hospitalizing her again and we don't know what will happen. I've been empathizing with her because of my hg...man having gastropareisis is almost like having to live with hg for your whole life and not ending up with a baby at the end. I'm scared for her, she's so young. Please keep her in your thoughts and pray for her...

I've had Mono many, MANY times though I never developed that condition. Instead I have a weakened immune system and just keep getting it (usually brought on by stress & illness). My spleen is permanently damaged from my several bouts of mono though so I can totally sympathize with your sister. I hope her Dr's can help her get back on her feet sooner than later!! Is this illness going to effect her chances to graduate?

Thank you so much to all of you who were praying for my sister, Trisha. She's finally on the mend, so I'm sure the prayers worked!! She has had 4 hospital stays since Nov. because of these issues. They decided to take her gall bladder out on the 3rd visit. She finally got into a good hospital...Primary Children's Medical Center here in Utah where a team of dr's helped her. There, she had a PICC line put in and IV fluids and TPN. The dr's helped her with physical therapy, medications, and the emotions that come from being bed ridden for so long...all of us can relate!! Anyway, she's walking by herself now and even starting to go to high school again! I'm so proud of her. She's starting to gain weight again, although she's not up to where she was. I just wanted to thank everyone again. You guys are so great! Sorry this update is so late. After the PICC line infection, it's just taken me a while to get this out there.
