chatroom

We do friday night chat but we all need to chat at different times and a chatroom added to the forum would be helpful.

A Java chat might be fun, but I know when I was pregnant I couldn't do a chatroom at all. The motion of the words went to quickly and made me even more sick. I'm not sure if a chat room is a good idea here, but it is something to look into. I'd love to here what the admins have to say.

This is one thing that comes up frequently, and we'd LOVE to have the capacity, but the kind of forum setup we have doesn't allow for live chat. Some ladies have set up Yahoo chat groups (but I always forget my passwords and the groups seem to fizzle out in time), and we're doing the MSN thing, along with countless other private chats. The old HuGS forum at Delphi has chat capacity, and we could try using that, but Delphi wasn't working as well for storage and access to the HG knowledge we all impart, so we'd have to be careful to stick with just chat wherever we go and make sure we're not chatting instead of posting here and thus losing the valuable information that comes as each new HGer learns from and builds on past experiences. And the motion of fast-moving chat would be way too much for many HGers who are barely able to deal with the computer in the first place. But if others are for it, maybe we can try to figure out a permanent chat room for HG, somewhere off-site.

This was discussed a long while ago, and I think the general feeling was that if there was a permanent chat room, then topics that would be of help to people browsing the forum may be lost in the chat room. In other words people might discuss things with whoever is in the room instead of posting on the forum and the responses would also be in the chatroom.

I tried to find the old thread but I can't remember what the title of it was. I don't know if anything has changed since back then, but that was the reason we didn't have one back then.

I did read somewhere (might be on the old thread) that there is some chat facility in a yahoo group somewhere. Anyone remember where?

That's the one I never could remember how to get to or how to log in, and it's been a few years since it was active, I believe. I'll see if I can track it down this week.

There is a yahoo group HyperemesisGravidarum- and it used to have a chat room. However none of the "groups" do anymore (Yahoo and MSN and others all took that feature away).

Yahoo has regular chat rooms through messenger and I visit friends in one particular room. Perhaps we could do the same for HG... say choose a pregnancy room number 3 or something and whenever an HG mommy wants to talk, just go to Pregnancy:3 in Yahoo chat. Of course, that means any pregnant women can go there, too, but it could be a gathering ground for HGing women. We could use a general health room or pregnancy, or whatever works.

Any thoughts?

Got my hubby to make me a chatroom http://www.lhcw.net/HERCHAT
if anyone would like to try it :) Don't need any special software its just a java chat room :) When it asks for a password you don't have to enter password just type in your user name and hit connect.

You might need the latest Java Script which can be found here for free http://www.java.com/en/download/windows_ie.jsp

PS

If any of the admis or mods from this board would like mod acess to the chatroom let me know i can ad you as a mod.

I tried to download the Java install, but it doesn't work for me - keeps saying something like "too many java items working at once error" and I don't have anything else open apart from the thread I was reading! :( :( I don't know enough about computers to do anything - would probably make it worse.

Anyone got any ideas (in simple form!) that I can try???

I don't think that one is used at all anymore. I have peaked in a few times and no one is ever there.
I have no avice on how to solve the java problem though.
