Kyren's birth story and a pic

Postby Hopester » Mar 22, 2006 10:23 pm

You all, I can't even tell you how wonderful Kyren's birth was. I'm totally elated and want to share my joy w/ everyone!!!

At 6am Sunday the 19th my water broke! What a feeling knowing that I would have a baby in my arms within 36 hours! I woke dh, called the birthing center, and got ready for the trek. I called my sister-in-law b/c she wanted to be at the birth and had to hop a plane from San Antonio to make it to Knoxville in time. I woke up Autumn w/ the good news! To say that she was excited would be an understatement! As I was getting ready she said, "Mommy, now I just want you to know that if you need anything, just ask me or Daddy and we will do what we can for you!" I could've cried!

When we got to the birthing center, I was only dialated to 1cm, so Susan, the midwife we wanted!!!, told us to go eat breakfast and walk around until things got intense. My friend Beth Ann had met us there to help take care of Autumn. We went to Panera, had a wonderful breakfast and then went to the mall to walk around. I so wanted someone to ask me when I was due!

After a while I started getting a migraine! No fair! So we headed back to the birth center. I rested and the headache went away. My sil Tess arrived and so did our friends Johnny, Chelle, and their kids. It was a full house! Johnny and Chelle made a food run and brought back some ***FOODMENT***delicious Japanese/FOODMENT. I thought there was no way I would want to eat, but it was a really nice distraction to sit and eat w/ my friends through the contractions!

After I ate, it was 6pm, and the midwife needed to check me once again. She seemed disappointed that I was only 3cm. We started nipple stimulation and that got things rolling. Dh and I walked the halls, I rocked on the birthing ball, all the while joking w/ friends and watching dd play between the contractions.

Finally things were getting active enough that I could move to the water birth room. Things were getting intense and I decided to get into the tub. That was wonderful! Dh was in there w/ me. It was just beautiful. He guided me through the contractions and between each one I collapsed into his arms.

I don't know the time, but the midwife checked me and found I was 9cm. Pretty soon after I started feeling "pushy". I pushed maybe 4 times, and he was out! The midwife put him on my chest immediately. Then I felt someone pulling my hair! I said, "Oh my goodness! He's pulling my hair!" I heard people saying, "No." Then everyone burst out laughing, "The baby IS pulling your hair!"

Kyren was born at 9:05pm. He weighed 7lbs, 2oz and was 20 iches long. I noticed his dimples and full head of hair immediately!

It was a beautiful birth. The pain wasn't half as bad as I thought it would be. Waterbirth is the way to go! Hypnobirthing helped quite a bit as well.

What a beautiful moment captured in time. Thank you for sharing your joy with us. I am always amazed at how purple a baby can be after birth and moments later a nice shade of pink.

Congratulations to you and your family,
Hugs,
