Another good way to slightly flavour water is to add liced cucumbers to it. Gives ita fresher tatse, especially ice cold. I have a much easier time drinking water fom a bottle then from a glass. Odd. I will 1/2 fill it and freeze it, then just keep topping it up until it melts. Keeps it nice and cold.

I'm probably going to hell in a handbasket for the caffeine overload but Mountain Dew works for me. I think it's the syrupy-ness and sweetness. It tasted so good after drinking so much Gatorade, which is basically flavorless.

The strawberry (I think-the light pink color) flavored Gatorade worked well for me. So did lemon Italian ice. I couldn't stomach water at all (even ice chips) or Sprite. At least the Gatorade is good for electrolytes :D

I have a strange one. My acupuncturist suggest umeboshi plum tea. They're japanese pickled plums, kinda pricey, but worth it. You can get them at a health food store. The only brand I've seen is Eden, though an asian market would probably have them, too. I put a plum in the bottom of a mug and add boiling water. Goes down quite easily. Mildly salty/tangy. You can eat the plum afterwards, but I haven't gotten the courage to try it yet.

My body seems to reject everything after a couple of days.

I had a couple of good gatorade days, then a couple of good coke days, right now I am on really carbonated Welch grape soda.

Ice chips stay thank God.

Yes, the constant changing of fluids is something I experienced too. A lot of us do, I guess. So the longer the list, the better....unfortunately.

i think it is interesting about the pepsi thing. for a few weeks there during my 2nd trimester, pepsi was about the only thing i could tolerate. my doctor said it was not what he would highly recommend but that if i could tolerate it, it was good. he just wanted me to be able to hold something, anything, down.
also, when i was released from the hospital i was only drinking lowfat chocolate milk for a few weeks. i held it down in the hospital after an increase in Zofran, so when i was released i decided to stick with it.

I'm another one who at the worst, had nothing. But, then once I could start drinking, it reallly changed quickly.

STRAWS were really helpful for getting more fluids in me.

My one constant - Things had to be COLD for me. These are ways to make that happen:
- Take 5-7 icecubes & crush in blender. Add just a small amount (A few tablespoons) of either Vitamin Water, Juice, Soda, etc. (We had bought a ice shaver, but found the blender did MUCH better)
- Frozen Mugs in the freezer.
- Summer time fluid filled mugs frozen in the freezer
- Extra ice cube trays

My fluids this time have been

stoneyfield wild berry smoothies (I drink them when I wake up in the night because then I don't notice the bad after taste)

Newman's own lemonade mixed with OJ

Coke

Perrier w/Lime

Postby SuzInTexas » Jan 08, 2008 1:36 am

For some reason, my usual diet coke addiction stops cold at pregnancy - it just doesn't sit well and neither does anything with sugar. But Perrier w/ Lime sits great, keeps my mouth feeling fresh, and meets my fizzy fix. My 2 year daughter loves it too - she must have picked up the habit while she was in my belly. The downside, of course, is that it is expensive.... but probably not as expensive as Daily Queen!

Well this pregnancy the ONLY thing I can drink is Pellegrino bubbly water. Not Perrier, just Pelligrino. The Perrier has a taste to it I don't care for right now (and I normally like it.) This is also not a cheap safe drink but I'm happy to have something I can drink at least.

i think i'm the odd one here, so far i've only been able to handle *hot* drinks. mostly fruit and berry teas. as well as flavoured white tea. once it cools too much i can't stand it anymore, it has to be hot or warm at least. and can only be drunk through a straw. warm is easier to digest, so i feel pretty lucky..

Cold pulp free OJ during my first pregnancy.

Sprite for second and third.

COLD cranberry juice, not the 100% juice kind for this pregnancy. Weird huh? The natural fruit juices come right back up but this crap with only 15% juice tends to usually stay put.

Oh and surprised nobody has mentioned it - you can get bags of that pellet ice from Sonic. Wonderful!

Oh, I had no idea Sonic would sell that ice in bags! I am so going to do that for my next round!

For me, everything turned to acid in my mouth, even water. The only thing that didn't? Really really really cold (best if partially frozen) Coca-cola.

My doctor said he didn't care as long as I was drinking something and it was staying down, coke would work. He even gave it a thumbs up because of the sugar. Part of my issues stemmed from getting hypoglycemic.

icey cold only!

Postby Gemika » Oct 21, 2008 7:01 pm

I couldnt drink tea till late 3rd trimester and then camomile or hot choc and i got desperate enough to have peppermint, sage!! Licorice tea!! and rasberry leaf to bring on birth in spite of the flavours.

Ice Ice Ice but there IS more to be said! I could taste the freezer flavours and as a vegetarian (who basically threw it out the window for preg but nevertheless...) I HATED visiting my in laws. Walking (fainting) in the door no matter when all I could smell was meat. I had to rinse the ice before I could eat it as it was infused with a meaty pungence.

Tupperware has lidded ice trays made from silicone with pop bottoms for easy removal. SOO stocking up if have another bub!

Next thing that probably saved my life was a little smoothy/icecream shop in my town made me the following smoothy:

Frozen banana
Frozen mango
honey
dairy milk
Lots of crushed ice

I only vomited that one up once! A life saver!

I found watermelon incredibly painful to vomit. As with anything acid like OJ, soft drinks etc. I had some luck sort of with an organic lemon and ginger drink. I hated the smell of it and the after taste was terrible but same goes with pretty much anything so it was the best of a bad bunch at times.

Mine was raspberry iced tea, now shaved/crushed ice. Trying to figure out some way to get more fluids in as I found out I'm apparently dehydrating myself. :(

Right now it's caffeine-free Dr. Pepper. I've gotta find other things that sound appetizing so I can try to get fluids in and get rid of my IVs.

If you have a Bahama Buck's nearby it can be a godsend! I swear I lived off snowcones with my last pregnancy, and having a place that was open year round to get them was wonderful! Lots of moisture, no texture, and they taste the same both directions. The soft ice is fabulous, and anything you crave they probably have that flavor.
