I'm wondering if you can develop a tolerance to zofran? It just doens't seem to be helping me this time around the way it did last time. I took it from 8wks until delivery last time and have been on it since 5 wks this time. Could it be that i've just had too much of it now? Should i think about moving to phenergan or using them as a combo? i feel so overmedicated already...has this happened to anyone before? it was my miracle drug last time, but sometimes i feel like if i miss a dose, i feel better...

I don't know about developing a tolerance to it. It might just be that the hg is worsening and therefore the Zofran isn't able to control it as well. Maybe do a combo of meds till the worst is over.

When using zofran it can lessen in effect the longer you take it (those who work surgery are more likely to see this). THat is why after surgery, for post anesthesia nausea, the docs don't like to prescribe it too much. However there are other things out there that you can take. Anzemet and visteral are two. If you look on the medication list on the website you can find quite a few. Also zofran doesn't work well for many for nausea, so combining could be a good idea.

Meg,
Could be a tolerance issue but also, my HG got progressively worse with each pregnancy so it might also be that your HG is worse so the Zofran just isn't cutting it as well.

When I first took zofran it worked great, then it gradually seemed to help less and less. Turns out I was just getting worse and worse, that could be the case. I don't know anything about developing a tolerance to it.

My vomiting increased a couple times through the pregnancy. I found if I got IVF and took another med as well (meclizine worked for me) then the zofran seemed to work better too.

interesting...the HG is actually a lot better for me than it was with DD....so i'm doing pretty well...i think the big problem is that this time i'm dealing with issues that the zofran doesn't fix...nausea, gagging, food aversions, loss of appetite...and the zofran is just making me constipated....i a going to ask the doc at my next appt about phenergan or something...the meclizine was making me worse..

Yeah the Zofran never did anything for my nausea. If that's a big problem then you're probably going to need something else paired up with it.
