Psychiatrist Listing for PPD?

Postby Linablu » Jun 24, 2004 12:52 pm

I was wondering if anyone knew of a listing for psychiatrists by state who specialize or who are recommended for treating PPD, as they do on this site for HG OBs. I suffered horribly severe PPD with my first pregnancy and am already starting to feel the onset of the anxiety that nearly killed me. I am 31 weeks pregnant, and due to the HG and other pregnancy woes, I am anxious for this baby to be born, like NOW! I have insomnia, and it is making me think I am headed for PPD again. I want to get established with a good psychiatrist to get the right meds ASAP post-partum.

If anyone knows of a listing of good docs for PPD, please let me know!

Thanks!

I don't know a lot on the subject, but you might want to check out this website: www.postpartumstress.com
It looks like it might be of some help, it has message boards and some of the people on there might know of some doctors. Also it gives some references to organizations that should have some doctor listing as well. Hope this helps a little.

Chrissy,

Have you asked your ob who they recommend? I think mine had a list... However, 18 months later, and still suffering from PTSD, I found the perfect doctor. A GYN who also specializes in women's psychiatry. He is helping me a lot right now!!

Take care,
Kim

A good resource is www.depressionafterdelivery.org

Also, a state university near you may have a research clinic or something. I just found the University of Michigan Depression Clinic in a google search.

Good luck.

My doctor is as useless as a box of hair. He writes off all my problems during pregnancy, so I can imagine how unimportant any problems I will have after delivery will be to him. I don't even want to ask him.

Suzanne:

I tried to click on that link you provided, but the website does not exist. Thanks for trying, though.

Hi Chrissy,

Can you cut and paste the link? Maybe a google search for the organization?

Email me personally if you want. I had hideous ppd with my first and am having some trouble with organic stuff since the miscarriage, things unrelated to the grief of loss. I've finally found lots of resources and maybe an email will work better.
