HELP

Postby bjenson08 » Jan 11, 2013 11:59 am

Hello Everyone,

I am new to these boards and am just getting all up to speed on HG. Currently my Girlfriend is about 8 weeks along and suffers from extreme HG. She is currently to the point of giving up wanting to abort the pregnancy. Her kidneys are at high risk for complete failure and are currently only working at about 40% from the test done yesterday. She has a appointment for a picc line to hear heart next week, but is currently on Standard Tricare insurance, and was told that home health care would not cover the visits to deal with the picc line. What I would like to know is if there is any other programs or options that would help with the home healthcare? I basically have up to end of the week to decide if we are going to go with the picc and try to make it through or Terminate now. Your help and thoughts on the issue will be very much appreciated.

Welcome to the forums. Very sorry that your girl friend and you are in this position. As I live in another country I don't have advice about home health care. Posting under New to the forums may get you more responses, particularly if you mention the words termination or help in the title. Is your girlfriend in hospital? Is she under the care of a high risk Dr (eg specialist in kidney disease, or maternal fetal medicine), and what is their treatment plan? Constant hydration whether via IV or PICC is important. Being in close communication with her specialists, asking questions, researching will all help get her the best care.

Tricare covers home health!! I'm not sure what they are talking about. Generally the picc line needs one nursing visit per week, if they would rather she come to the hospital and have a nurse there do it, she could do that once per week.

A picc line is just a way of delivering medications and fluids, what will she be getting through the picc line? Is she in the hospital now? Dehydration can affect kidney function, and the kidney function usually goes back to normal easily once she gets fluids.

The chance of getting HG again is about 80%, so terminating and trying again usually means dealing with HG again - as well as having to deal with the grief of loss.
