Anyone around?

Postby fromfivetosix » Mar 30, 2013 6:02 am

Just wondering if anyone was around? We are still trying to adopt and waiting for our match. It is an interesting range of emotions talking to expectant moms who are experiencing easy pregnancies and being so happy for them but a little sad for myself that I never experienced that. Anyone else have any experience? Anyone else successful in adopting?

I haven't adopted myself, but my sister adopted two beautiful girls. We love adoption! I wish you the best of luck!

that normal pregnancy experience seems so very strange to us HGers, doesn't it! best wishes on the adoption process... i know that can be long and arduous. but to have another little one without vomiting once? sounds like a dream. :)

Thanks Joy. Yes, the physical toll is significantly less. The emotional toll I'm still tallying...I'll let you know once we have a little one in our arms :)

Yes, there is definitely an emotional toll with adoption. The rules vary by state, but most adoption laws are built so that the birth mother has ample opportunity to change her mind. Which is fair and right, because choosing adoption is hard. But, in the cases where she *does* change her mind, that is emotionally grueling. It happened to my sister once, and I'd say the emotional response is similar to giving birth to a still born baby.

Don't get me wrong, while that threat is realistic, I am in no way discouraging adoption. Just like coming to the end of hg, when you have your new baby in arms it is all so worth it. And maybe even more wonderful because of it.

And doing it without puking does seem really, really awesome.

You are absolutely right leah. I think the rules are right and necessary but there can be so much pain involved. Even in a successful placement, it comes at the pain of the birth mom/dad and that is heartbreaking. We have had four broken matches, the most recent this past week and have been waiting for almost two years. However, after numerous bouts with hg, this seemed like the best option... hopefully soon :)
