I was never offered it and had never even heard of it before finding this web site. I am in the South West and was admitted to hospital and still not offered it. This was two years ago so maybe things have changed....?

Hi there,

I am from South Lanarkshire Scotland an I recieved Zofran for my second Pregnancy in 2001, as Stemitol which helped me first time round (1997) in injection form no longer worked for me.

The docs. still made me try and retry every other drug they had while on a drip for fluids and potasium. (even though I had tried some of them with my first pregnancy and I new the would make no differance they insisted I go through it again. I think that was my lowest point)
Also, they made out at first that it had more of a risk as it was not as fully tested as the other drugs.

Eventually I got my first injection and it stoped me vomiting almost instantly, I was so relieved as it was my last hope. They continued to inject every 6 hours for the rest of my stay in hospital (Wishaw General Hospital)giving me a small perscription of Zofran tablets to take home.

I was to get a new perscription from my GP who was fine about it.
But at every antinatal check up I was asked if I still realy needed the tablets as they were so expensive?
I did need them as if I missed one tablet the vomiting returned and I had my son to try and care for also.
I was on them for 9 months and for afew days after birth.

My experience is most midwifes / docs dont have a clue about HG (think it is brought on by worrying and other stupid exp.) I did not find out about this web site untill after my children, but I wish I had. I also think an informitive leaflet in GP's surgeries would be of great help in the future for both sides.

Let me know how you get on,
Chez.
